Reaching out after Speed Dating: who contacts who?

How does it work?

Couple exchanging phone numbers after singles event

Well, that is entirely up to you and what you are comfortable with.

When you attend a speed dating event, both parties receive each others contact information to get in touch with each other.
So how does it work?
Who gets in contact with who first ?

Well it’s 2024 ... so yes ladies, it's okay to reach out first to any gentlemen first if you want to...
And guys and gals, I suggest you wait 24 hrs from the event to make that first contact, as not everyone gets to read their email right away. They may not even know you both matched yet!

However, male or female if doesn’t matter, I suggest you keep it simple and brief and only once.

Example: send an email

It’s a good idea to include a headshot of yourself in the email.

Hi! It’s Maureen.
Just saying hi, it was nice to meet you. Looking forward to chatting with you again.

Or ladies, do the girly thing and wait to hear from the guy first. Its up to you

Friend match? Again, keep it simple.

When you meet for only “7” mins, many times someone thought you were interesting, but needs more time to figure out if there is a romantic interest. So if you received a “friends match” open up a line of communication and see where it goes

Example email to a "friend":

Hi, it’s John
Nice to meet you at the event. Feel free to contact me if you ever need a walking partner to take a walk in the park with or meet up for a happy hour drink.

Reach out once, by text or email, and only once.

It’s a ping pong game after that...you ping, wait for the pong.

If you don't get a response, move on...”NEXT!” as they say... Don't contact a 2nd time without a response.

And yes, it may be disappointing, but try not to take it personally.

Remember, sometimes when you don't get what you want it’s a wonderful stroke of luck. The best is yet to come!
